Federico Leighton, MD*

Federico Leighton, MD, is Professor at the Laboratory of Molecular Nutrition, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile.  He teaches courses in Molecular Biology of the Cell, Molecular Pathology, and Health Nutrition and Antioxidants.

Dr. Leighton is internationally known for his research into the effects of alcohol and wine on many aspects of human health, including blood lipids, glucose and insulin, antioxidants, and endothelial function.   He has also conducted research on the effects of public guidelines on drinking patterns in the population, and is a noted authority on the health benefits associated with the Mediterranean-type diet.
