Mladen Boban, MD, PhD

Mladen Boban, MD, PhD, is Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology, University of Split School of Medicine, in Croatia.  He is the current President of the Croatian Pharmacological Society, and since 1996 has been a member of the European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR) and International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR).  

Professor Boban is also the current President of the National Field Committee for Biomedicine and Health.  In 2011, he was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite Agricole“, Ministère de l’Agriculture, de l’Alimentation, de la Pêche, de la Ruralité et de l’Aménagement du territoire, The Republic of France.

The main focus of the scientific interests of Professor Boban relates to the biological effects of wine and its constituents on health, primarily those effects on the cardiovascular system and mechanisms of antioxidant activity of wine.  Currently, he is investigating how different enological procedures in wine making (changes of maceration time, partial/complete dealcoholization, thermal treatment of wine, aging of wine, etc.) may affect its biological activity.  This also includes investigation of potential differences in distinctive biological effects between wines obtained by such technology in the production of both white and red wines.
